  • FAVORITE FOODS OF ELDERS IN MUNOS/TALAVERA AREA WERE CANNED SARDINES WITH FRESH TOMATOES AND ONIONS WITH SALTED FISH SAUCE. ELDERS ALLEN ( MY COMPANION), ELDER LINES AND I FORGOT THE OTHER PINOY ELDER WERE ON THE SAME APARTMENT IN TALAVERA, NUEVA ECIJA DUE TO AN EARTHQUAKE THAT STRUCK MOST PARTS OF CABANATUAN ZONE, NOW A MISSION ALREADY. FAVORITE FOODS BECAUSE THOSE ARE EASILY AVAILABLE THEN, BUT WE WERE VERY HAPPY AND WITHOUT COMPLAINT. (Rayod)

What was a funny experience?

  • Leading a hymn in a congregation…hymn ended and I was still beating… (Rosalinda)
  • WHEN WE USED TO PLAY A, ( SPAM BUGS ) GAME WHILE RIDING A JEEPNEY. YOU HAVE TO TOUCH YOUR COMPANION EVERY TIME YOU SEE AN OLD ” BUG TYPE CAR”. THAT’S FUNNY BECAUSE THE LAST ONE WHO SEES IT WILL BE CAUGHT UNAWARE. THIS IS ONE WAY OF TAKING AWAY OUR STRESS AND FORGETTING NEGATIVE THINGS. (Rayod)

What was a crazy experience?

  • Binato kami ng companion ko at muntik kaming sinaksak ng balisong at hinabol ng lasing pinagtripan kami. (Reynaldo)
  • WHEN WE WERE ASSIGNED IN RIZAL, NUEVA ECIJA AREA. AS A DISTRICT LEADER, THOSE ELDERS IN THE BONGABON AREA INVITED AS TO INTERVIEW THEIR CANDIDATES FOR BAPTISM, THE CRAZY AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE WAS TO RIDE ON TOP OF A JEEPNEY WITH FULL LOADS WHICH WILL CROSS A RIVER. WE USED TO SEE SOME SOLDIERS ON OUR WAY DUE TO NPA INFESTED AREA. (Rayod)

What was a spiritual experience?

  • During my mission first area the people thought we were faith healers…and we grabbed the chance to share the gospel with them… (Rosalinda)
  • IT WAS A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE WHEN MY COMPANION IN RIZAL, NUEVA ECIJA INVITED SOME INVESTIGATORS WITH A NUMBER OF MORE OR LESS FIFTY SINGLE ADULT INVESTIGATORS (A FULL-LOADED JEEPNEY ) OF WHOM SOME WERE HANGING OUTSIDE THE JEEP. THAT BARANGAY PART OF RIZAL AREA WERE ONLY A PASS WAY BY PREVIOUS ELDERS BEFORE US. IT WAS THEN WHEN OUR MOUNTAIN BIKES HAD FLAT TIRES AND WE WALKED AND IT SO HAPPENED THAT SOME CURIOUS KIDS MADE SOME KIND OF HELPING HAND AS IT IS IS NORMAL WITH BARANGAY PEOPLE. WE GAVE THEM BOOK OF MORMONS AND TOLD THEM TO SET APPOINTMENTS WITH THEIR PARENTS. NEXT TIME WE WENT BACK, ALL THE NEIGHBORHOOD WERE INTERESTED TO HEAR THE DISCUSSIONS. WE BROKE RECORDS IN BOOK OF MORMON PLACEMENTS, NORMAL NUMBERS OF DISCUSSIONS IN A MONTH WITH ONLY OUR NUMBER WEEKLY DISCUSSION NUMBERS, MOST NUMBERS OF CANDIDATES OF BAPTISM, AND MOST NUMBER OF BAPTISMS. WE WERE THE TOP BAPTIZERS FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE MONTHS. IMAGINE TAKING ONE FULLY-LOADED JEEPNEY OF INVESTIGATORS IN A BRANCH, WHICH THE BRANCH PRESIDENT AND OTHER LEADERS HAD TO ASSIGN THE SUNDAY SCHOOL ROOMS, THE LARGEST AMONG THE CLASSROOMS WAS FOR OUR INVESTIGATORS. What are some interesting facts about the Philippines Quezon City West Mission?

  • INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE MISSION WERE: 1. EVERY MISSIONARY, WHETHER FOREIGNER OR LOCAL ARE ALL EQUAL. THOUGH WE CAME FROM DIFFERENT CULTURE AND NORMS OF SOCIETY, WE’RE ALL IN A GOSPEL CULTURE SOCIETY. 2. IF YOU MAKE GOD YOUR PARTNER IN FINDING PEOPLE TO TEACH AND BAPTIZE, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE, SURELY HE WILL DIRECT YOUR PATH. 3. IT WAS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT FOREIGN AND LOCAL MISSIONARIES CAN ADOPT HIS/HER COMPANIONS’ CULTURE WHICH WILL BE PART OF LEARNING PROCESS. (Rayod)

  • Filipinos are hospitable people, I am a filipino, so I knew it… (Rosalinda)
  • IN THE PHILIPPINES, MOST PEOPLE WILL ACCOMMODATE YOU THOUGH DEEP INSIDE THEY DON’T LIKE TO HEAR THE MISSIONARY DISCUSSIONS. THIS IS PART OF FILIPINO HOSPITALITY. (Rayod)

Any packing/clothing advice?

  • Just be modest… (Rosalinda)
  • PACK ONLY THOSE NEEDED CLOTHINGS. IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW YOU DRESS, AS LONG AS WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF MISSION RULES. WHAT MATTERS ARE THE WAYS TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS OF TRUST WITH THE PEOPLE AND OF COURSE, YOUR DEDICATION, HARD WORK AND YOU WILL GAIN THE SPIRIT. (Rayod)

Any advice/testimony for pre-missionaries going to Quezon City West?

  • Be humble and obedient to mission rules. (Reynaldo)
  • Missionary work is the best work- in whatever mission you serve…it is God’s work and you love to be part of it…there will be no regrets… (Rosalinda)
  • JUST LEARN THE FILIPINO CULTURE OF BEING FRIENDLY AND APPROACHABLE WITH ALWAYS A SMILE ON YOUR FACE THOUGH YOU HAVE A HARD TIME LEARNING THE THEIR LANGUAGE OR DIALECTS. (Rayod)

What was a funny language mistake?

  • If I may, not a funny language actually but funny action when my companion farts as we are in the middle of the discussion and all are pinpointing each other but I know it was my companion who farted. (Rayod)
