My experience with YouTube collabs - YouTuber Video Transcripts

I find the best way to have a YouTube collaboration is when there are multiple videos connecting to each other. I think the YouTube algorithm really likes it, and both YouTube parties, it seems more fair. For me, our biggest one was Spider-Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse, filmed in real life. And so we shared it to two other YouTube channels, and they had something also Spider-Man related. And so then when people watched our Spider-Man video, they wanted to watch their videos. And then when people went on their channels, they wanted to see other Spider-Man videos as well. So having an end card to their video that is related to the topic makes a huge difference.

YouTube collaborations are really cool, but they're also really interesting. I would say that my most successful collaborations have been with other YouTubers that have similar audiences as me. That's definitely the most effective, but doing a collaboration with a channel that's got a very different audience, very different content strategy, different values, those just don't work out very well. And also, you know, if I was a small channel, I wasn't collaborating with anybody big. Shout outs don't really work. So I would just say, collaborate with channels that are similar size and similar audience, and make sure you're providing value on both sides to make it worthwhile for everybody.

I would say collaborations can be the most rewarding and helpful thing that you could possibly do with your channel, but that you just be picky with the collaborations that you do. So I would say find people that resonate with you or your channel and that you have a good kind of, what is that called, where you bounce off each other really well, where you have really good interactions with them, and you can just really thoroughly enjoy it because then your audience will also thoroughly enjoy it. And then also just share each other's audiences with one another, and know that you can have an attitude of there's plenty for everybody to go around, and it's not an attitude of scarcity.

My experience with YouTube collabs has been mixed and I've had some real good successes with them and some ones that just didn't do much. And I've had some one-sided ones too. I did one with a painter up in Idaho, used to be called the Idaho Painter, and I made a video for him and he posted it on his channel. He made one for me and posted on mine. The one that he posted on my channel got over a million views. The one I posted on his channel got like maybe tens of thousands at most and it just wasn't a good fit for what people were looking for. So I felt really terrible. He eventually actually took that one down and so I didn't feel like I contributed what I wanted there. So that one wasn't a great example. But in all of the collabs that I've done, we end up with a good opportunity to meet new people and to form a friendship and form a bond. So that's been a lot of fun. I definitely recommend going out of your way to try to find collabs of people that you want to associate yourself with and not just look at numbers and that kind of stuff. Look at people you want to be around and you'll make a great experience with it.
