Going to Turkey, especially when you fly in, you'll fly in to the Istanbul Airport. You anticipate a lot of really beautiful historical buildings given its long history originally being Constantinople and then being Istanbul and a major city in the Ottoman Empire, but the current airport is very new and very modern because the previous one was bombed and is no longer operational but as soon as you leave the airport you will see the absolutely gorgeous history in the architecture and mosques basically on every corner and again just awesome architecture. So don't let the initial first impression of the modern airport trick you.
