One of the best tips I can give you is to focus on words. A lot of people are really intimidated by the grammar or by just everything that's different about Russian, and they tend to focus on that. But there's really no way to speak without learning a lot of words, so that would be my biggest tip.

Russian is a hard language. It is grammatically one of the most complex languages and just can kick your butt. Don't be discouraged, we all struggle to speak the language and the best thing that helped me is learning the alphabet, learning how to read out the alphabet, and then once you have a good grasp on it, because it's really nice, every letter is how it sounds. So once you know, you can just read it word for word, letter by letter.

You have to speak it, and you have to just put yourself out there and forget about your fears of making mistakes and just really try. And as you do that, like, the language comes so much more quickly.

I would say definitely just don't stop trying to learn. Don't stop asking questions. Understand that it is a super, super tough language and you'll get it. It's super easy to get discouraged on yourself for not speaking as good as others or getting your accent right or whatever. But it's like you just have to realize it's most important to just communicate. And if they understand what you're saying, even though it's not perfect, that's what's important is the meaning of what you're saying. And you'll get it eventually. It just takes time and just dedication. But it's definitely doable.

My advice for learning Russian is pay attention to the words and the etymology, how they're actually formed, because at first it might just seem like there are all these long words that you just have to memorize, but you'll notice that lots of it is made up of roots and prefixes, and if you get a handle on those it makes it a whole lot easier.

So a few things that worked well for me, it was learning Russian. One, just learning the case chart, learning the grammar system. Two, just writing down every single word you ever hear. And three, always asking people for advice on the language.

Just go talk to people. Honestly, that's how I learned it the best. Anytime I was in the metro or on the bus or yeah, like transportation was big. I would just turn to somebody and talk to them about anything, about the holidays, about how they're doing. Then was time after doing that actually practicing the language skills. It'll come. It's challenging, yeah, but it'll come. Just talking to people and trying your best to listen and understanding will come and the ability to speak will come as well. Just give it time, but just talk to people. That's the biggest thing.

A lot of people are intimidated by the Russian language, but my suggestion to you is just have a great attitude about it and know that it will come with time. It's not going to come all right away, but as you dedicate yourself to studying daily, you really will pick it up. You'll be able to do it. My biggest suggestion while you're in Russia is just to ask questions of everyone. Ask for help, ask for grammar questions, ask for vocabulary, and just write down everything that you hear, everything that you have questions about, and that will really help you in learning the language. Don't be intimidated by the alphabet. As soon as you get that down, as soon as you can read it, it becomes so much easier. The grammar is really fun, and it's a lot more straightforward than the English language, so that's a good thing to look forward to. It's just the biggest thing is learning the vocabulary, learning the words, and you'll be able to do it.

Talk to Russians, listen to how they say things, how they pronounce the words, what words they use, what order they say them in, and ask, ask questions, ask why they say it that way, ask what they mean, ask how to say, you know, point at things and say, how do you say that? And you will pick it up very quickly.
