How to be more patient - Parenting Video Transcripts
Video 1 Transcript
I think one thing that can help you be more patient is to try to retrain your perspective on things. To tell yourself that basically nothing that happens is a big deal, except for if it's like life-threatening, like really life-threatening, like one of your children almost died, but like anything else, like spaghetti falling on the floor, juice falling on the carpet, the trash getting knocked over, a child slamming the door, all of those things, learning to just brush them off. Also telling yourself, setting a goal that you'll never yell at children, I think is a great goal. I think you can role-play stressful scenarios that you usually react to and just practice how you want to react to those stressful scenarios. I think overall children will respond to you better and obey you better if you can react in patience.

For years, I prayed for more patience with my large family. You know, having 10 kids in 17 years was an overwhelming thing we took on and 14 years ago, I got the answer to my prayer on how to be more patient. Heavenly Father really inspired our hearts to take our children out of public school and to begin homeschooling them. And that was overwhelming. I had a six-week-old baby in my arms and didn't have a plan, didn't know how we were going to do it. But 14 years later, here we are still homeschooling and it's been an incredible blessing to learn to be patient with my children by having my children with me all day, every day. And I am so grateful for that. I love my children. I'm grateful for the time we've had together, the experiences and the bond and the strength that that's given us as a family.

Taking a deep breath and helping your child to realize that no matter what may have just happened, they're still loved. I think that's very, very important to every child. And so as long as you can make sure your, whatever your reaction may be, you're letting your child know you love them and that they didn't ruin everything because of whatever little mistake they may have made, then score.
