One thing I would like to do each year around Christmas time is to take a picture of our kids at their current age and have them create a little ornament around that picture. When I was younger we would make ornaments in class at school and one year was a snowflake, one year it was a tree, one year it was just like a little mason jar lid with some some felt and some other things put on it and we put some stickers on it and stuff and those are some of my favorite things to look at on my parents Christmas tree. To look back and see all the memories and see how old we were and just have a fun time putting all those things on the Christmas tree.

In our family on birthdays we decorate the house for them. We put up balloons and a happy birthday banner. We always let them choose their favorite meals and sometimes I'll put crepe paper over their door so they have to bust out before they can come out while we sing happy birthday to them. But one of my favorite things we do is we make a poster with everybody takes turns writing things we love, as many things as they are years old about the person, the birthday person. And we keep the poster up for like a week and then they take it down to their room and it's just fun to remember all of the great things that your family loves about you. So that's something that I hope my kids think is special that I enjoy doing for them.

One of our favorite family traditions at Christmas time was on Christmas Eve we would get together and we would fondue. We would do the hot oil and we had different meats and cheese that we would dip in batter to deep-fry as well as some vegetables and just kind of a fun time to sit around and talk and enjoy each other's company.

There's a lot of families, including mine, that make like a yearly movie a part of family tradition. So maybe there's like a Christmas movie that you watch every year. For us, the week of the Day of the Dead, we've started watching Coco by Pixar and we love that. And then The Sound of Music is a movie that we watch the week of Easter. So it's just kind of fun traditions to look forward to each year, is having a certain movie at a certain time of year that kind of ties things together.

My wife's parents did this every year and we started doing it in our own way every year. The first date that they went on or the first night that they met, I can't remember what, my father-in-law bought my mother-in-law a certain kind of candy bar. So every year they buy that kind of candy bar and celebrate the day they met or the first date they went on. So my wife and I, when we got married, we started doing that and we started going to the place every single year that we went to get ice cream for our first date and now we take our kids there. And we thought, even if that place ever closes down, we'll still buy that type of ice cream and make the treat ourselves. And so it's a fun family tradition that we look forward to every year and it's something my wife's family did and some of her siblings do now too.

We have several family traditions. We try to wake up our children in the morning, early before school and by singing some church songs and then we have a family prayer and we read some scriptures together as a family. We also do a family hug and a family cheer before our children go to school. We also on family, we have a family night on Monday nights when we, you know, maybe watch something fun together, have a little lesson, have treats, play games. On Sundays, I love sitting on the couch with my children and watching family home videos, just unlisted on a private or, you know, on a playlist on our personal YouTube channel. That's a lot of fun. And I love snuggling, holding our children, just wrapping them up in the blanket and giving them lots of hugs.

Every birthday that we had, we had like a special lunch. Well, I'm from Peru, so lunch is a big meal for us. And so we, as the person who has the birthday, can choose where and what to eat. And we in Peru eat like really good food. So I think that was very important to me, to like part of my birthday. Like this was like the celebration, what I wanted to eat and where I wanted to eat. So that's an idea. Maybe it could be like a dinner or something special.

One of my favorite family traditions that my husband and I started a few years ago is we created our own family holiday. So we picked a date that was significant to us, which for us is January 23rd, and that's our annual family holiday. And so as our kids get older, it will be a day where all of our kids, you know, have the day off from school, and we have the day off from work, and we go do something fun that we don't normally get to do, and we make memories. And that has been such an awesome thing for us so far is to have this little family holiday to look forward to, especially after you kind of get the blues after Christmas ends and you get into January. And so having a family holiday to look forward to has been so nice, and it's a day for us to celebrate our family and to make memories as a family.
