When I had my melanoma removed on my back, it was just a small mole, but they said they had it to take about a centimeter of extra skin around the whole thing. But rather than just a circle around it, that makes it kind of hard to stitch back up. They said they'd need to do more like a football tape or an eye-type shape so that they could pull it together and stitch it. But for me, the scar ended up much longer, maybe like 10 centimeters or something, because they took a really kind of long, narrow eye of skin. But at least it's gone, and I don't have to worry about that again.
