It's really common, at least in Latvia, to give flowers for any event. On any occasion, flowers are a good thing, but it's really important that you give them in an odd number. So one flower, three flowers, five flowers, etc. If you give it in an odd number, it's bad luck. So don't do that. The only time you should be giving an odd number of flowers is when you're laying flowers on a grave.
