Travel tips - Japan Video Transcripts

For the most part, Japan has everything that America does. If you have larger feet, if you're a girl who wears size nine or larger shoes, I suggest you bring a bunch for yourself, or at least good sturdy shoes. Japan only sells up to eight and a half. If you look on the inside, it's the Mexico size, which is 25. They don't sell much bigger than that. Sometimes 25.5. Bring deodorant. Japan's deodorant doesn't work on us Caucasian people. If you're Oriental, it's one point. It's made for that type of DNA, but it's not made for people like me. I have to bring mine from the States. And if you want fluoride in your toothpaste, bring that too. So bring enough for the whole time you're here, unless you can have it shipped. Enjoy.

Japanese people are super, super considerate of everyone around them, so these are things that you're gonna have to adjust to. Number one, when you get on a train, you're not supposed to talk there because it's a public space and you don't want to inconvenience anyone. With that, it's not that you're not allowed, but it's looked down upon if you pick up your cell phone while you're in the train.

So there are really two things I would recommend that you bring with you from America. One being deodorant, because the Japanese deodorant is meant to be used after you start sweating as a means of getting rid of the scent, whereas American deodorant is there to prevent you from sweating and add a scent onto it. So there have been a lot of complaints about the deodorant, so I would bring that. And if possible, I would bring your own medicine, your ibuprofen, your DayQuil, NightQuil, that sort of thing, because medicines in Japan are exceptionally weak and not as strong as American medicines, and so I would recommend you would bring those as well.

Bring your own toothpaste. A lot of it. Because Japanese toothpaste is not tasty and it doesn't have that like nice mint fresh aftertaste that we normally get from American toothpaste.

Japanese toothpaste, it has a different texture, it has a different texture on your teeth when you finish as well. It can be a bit strange if you're not used to it, but yeah, toothpaste is very useful I think. If you use tampons, you're not going to be able to find tampons in Japan very easily. They have pads, they have a very good selection of pads if you use disposable pads which you can get almost anywhere, but tampons are very hard to come by. It's not something they use, so if you do like to use tampons, I suggest you pack them yourself, bring them with you.
