Something super interesting about Japan is that there's vending machines everywhere. Like you could be walking down a street and there'll be like three vending machines on one street or you could even be like by rice fields and there's just randomly like a vending machine there and it's super interesting. And the vending machines are super cool too, like they have the normal like waters and things like that and then there's always like like in the winter time they put hot drinks in there so you can buy like hot chocolate or like hot lemon or tomato soup, like tons of different random drinks or soups from the vending machine so it's it's pretty cool.

If you are in a family of all daughters and you don't have a way to carry on the family name, then when you marry, as long as your husband has other brothers to carry on his family name, then he takes on his wife's surname. I think it's a pretty cool tradition and I actually met a family in Yokohama where this was the case with them. The husband had taken his wife's family name on.

There are places like in Wakanai on the Hokkaido island that have doors on the second story of the houses and very steep roofs. Now there's a reason for this. The snow gets so deep that you can't get out your first story doors. And so they put them on the second story so the wintertime so they can get out of their house. I remember by springtime after I plowed the road to the cities I was in that the snow banks would get as tall as the telephone poles. And when the ice would melt off the road in the spring it would sometimes be a foot thick that collected on top of the roads. So be prepared for some intense intense snow.

Mikimoto Pearl Island, which is in Mie Prefecture in the city of Ise known as Ise-shi. So Mikimoto Pearl Island is famous the world over for having the most beautiful amazing pearls. What is unique about this that Mikimoto Pearl Island is that they also do have a shrine. They have like frogs like statues of frogs around there because that's kind of like the god that protects that shrine and they're known for having Ama. Ama meaning the sea women or the women who dive for pearls in the oysters that are that is in the cold water. Now what's interesting is that when you go there you can see these women even today without scuba gear diving into the water to grab the oysters from which the you know the pearls are going to be taken from. There's a scientist that have even gone there to study the instincts that these women have that they've developed from this history of doing it that is quite amazing and fascinating.
