I think a largely underrated historical figure in history is actually Ulysses S. Grant. Not only did he lead the Union in the American Civil War, but he also ended up becoming a president. His reputation was kind of tarnished after the Confederacy rejoined the Union and attempted to create this aura of the mighty South in that time frame. But he not only was a phenomenal military strategist, but he led the efforts to restart the Reconstruction efforts, to rebuild the South, to ensure equalities and freedoms were granted to freed slaves. And he was the first president to start prosecuting and shutting down the Ku Klux Klan while it was on the horizon. So I think a lot of his efforts go unnoticed in American history.
