In Guatemala, kind of like here in the United States, they can tell your wealth status based on how you dress. So obviously if you go around looking like a princess or prince, they're going to tell you have money and they usually treat you differently or try to rob you. So what I would do is I would look clean and presentable but not unnecessarily extravagant. I had a simple necklace like this that just has a little thing on the end of it, nothing fancy, nothing shiny because you will put yourself at risk and your companion but also you want the people to feel comfortable around you. So if you are going out with jewels and diamonds and really well done hair and everything, you make them feel less. This is their town, they want to feel like you're a part of it and you don't want to stick out because that will put you in danger.
