The Guatemalans love celebrating their holy week, Semana Santa. They have a week off of school to go celebrate it and they make alfombras or rugs in the streets made out of colored sawdust and it's really pretty. It's a Catholic holiday and a lot of people in Guatemala are Catholic so they'll celebrate that and they go really nuts for Christmas. They'll stay up Christmas Eve eating tamales and spending time with friends and right when it hits 12 o'clock at night they will set off fireworks. I mean a lot of loud fireworks and it just lights up the sky. It is so pretty and it's so fun and they don't spend a lot of time celebrating it the day of Christmas but they do spend the night the 24th and the morning of the 25th celebrating it.
