So growing up, I was very overweight. I was considered probably, you know, fattest kid in school my whole life. I always made fun of it for it. I was about 270, 265 when I was 16. Had no muscle, was not active at all, couldn't run, nothing. When I was 16, I went on a keto diet. I was eating 20 carbs or less a day for about eight months. Lost about 10 pounds or more a month. I lost 85 pounds at the end of it all. And then when I was 18, I had to maintain that weight. I got into the gym. And obviously I'm not like the most fit person ever, but I would definitely like to think I'm definitely above average at this point. Definitely like well off. And so what it comes down to is your diet, dedication, consistency, and your determination. Because going to the gym, you're not always going to be motivated. You got to keep going if you want to build muscle. Dieting is going to be where you lose weight, even though you can still be skinny and not be fit or healthy. That's where exercise comes into.

I'm in my early 30s right now, and about a year ago I thought, you know, I haven't really seen my abs since I was 12, so I want to try to, I want to try to lean down a bit. Still didn't get there, but I put myself in a calorie deficit and just counted my calories for all of the summer of 2023, and I got down to a goal weight of 170, and started at like 180 I want to say, and very comfortably got down there, and I think I was just below 20% body fat there.

I feel like a lot of people always talk about success stories as if it's like you lost the weight or like before and after and things like that but a success story that I just kind of want to share is like you feel better when you start to make changes even if it takes months or years for the weight to come off even if like like you'll feel it in a matter of days you'll see it in a matter of months then other people will see it in a matter of months as well

So when I was a kid, I used to be 235 pounds and I'm not a tall guy. I'm Asian. Asians tend to be shorter. So I was about five, six probably at that time. And yeah, coming out of high school into my mission, I was about 235 pounds. It was a concern for me going into my mission personally. But during my mission, I lost 75 pounds. And since then, I've been able to gain about 15 of it back in muscle and a little bit of fat too, but I think that's okay. So that's my success story. As far as how I got there, it just has to do with exercise. Exercise every day, you're going to want to run about somewhere between two and five miles and do a little bit of weight training too. And then just try to control what you eat. Bring it in a little bit. Most of our fat doesn't come from our daily eating. Most of it actually comes from times where we go 1500 calories over, like when we eat a pizza or something. We just don't don't cut back on anything. So that just adds weight.

For most of my adolescence, I don't think fitness was a super important aspect of my life. I don't think I treated my body as kindly as I should have, but I feel like what fitness, working out, being active has done for me is just help me build a really healthy relationship with my body. I think when I first started going to the gym right after I got home from my mission, it was definitely because I wanted to like look a certain way, but I feel like that's evolved over time and now I'm just really grateful for my body and I want to give it the physical activity, the food, and the things that it needs to be happy and healthy. And I've just realized that as I've made that a priority being physically healthy, mentally healthy, that life is just a lot happier. So it's definitely worth it to build that healthy relationship with you and your body.

So my success story is not like other people's, but I was running the other day and there was a girl that I ran past. She looked cool and then I ran past her again and I was like, oh, I should talk to her, but I didn't. And then I decided I should talk to her. So I turned around and I was like, hey, what's your name? And she introduced herself. And then I was like, we should be friends. And she's like, okay. So I got her number and I invited her to like play pickleball the next day. And now we're way good friends. So you can meet people when you go to the gym or when you go running.
