Crazy foods - Finland Video Transcripts

The kind of foods people think about as crazy here in Finland are mämmi, maksalatikko, maybe silli, that is a type of a fish. If you're not a fish person you might not like that. Maksalatikko is liver casserole. We also have mustamakkara which is a type of a blood sausage. They eat it in Tampere region a lot. It's like their traditional food. Mämmi is an Easter delicacy here in Finland. It's a traditional food made of fermented rye. It's a type of a porridge thing that they bake and it can look a little bit questionable but if you eat it with cream and sugar or vanilla sauce it is quite okay. Like you can swallow it but you don't have to like it. If you don't want to try it you don't have to try it.

One time I had ice cream, but it was salmiakki flavored, which is black licorice, salty black licorice. But it was actually really good. If you can get Acquired Tastes, then you're gonna love it. Finland in general is pretty, uh, pretty, uh, G-rated with their foods, but every once in a while, they just got something interesting. Lots of raw fish and whatnot, but it's honestly good. There's nothing that I really disliked that I ate in Finland.

There was a thing called Velys, which is a dairy product. It's kind of slimy. The strawberry Velys was amazing. I actually never did have mammy, amazingly enough. I did have the fish, the muicu, and a few fish things. I tried to avoid those, but what else? The liver casserole, the moxolotico, is a lot. And I, my first Christmas, I took a big scoop of that, and that was a mistake. So anyway, it's, watch out for the holidays as noted. It's good.
