Encouragement - Fibromyalgia Video Transcripts

I would encourage anybody that thinks they're going crazy, thinking there's something wrong with them, to keep pushing your doctor. Your doctor will keep palming you off. You need to push that doctor to do all the scans, all the tests, find out exactly why you're in pain constantly, why you can't walk. It took me two years to be diagnosed. They told me 18 months I would be in a wheelchair. I stood up, I've got a job, I've been promoted, I'm where I want to be and I'm still pushing through every single day. Don't get me wrong, it's hard, it is really hard but you need to keep pushing because you can get there and you're not on your own.

Something that I have found really helpful when it comes to encouragement is social media, believe it or not. And that is to find the communities where, in my opinion, particularly women, are talking about fibromyalgia. I am a member of a couple groups on Facebook, and I have found one particularly helpful. And also, I follow content creators on Instagram and on TikTok for chronic pain fibromyalgia, as well as my other comorbid conditions. I would especially say for TikTok, that little 15-second, 30-second video about someone who's experiencing what I'm experiencing is encouraging to me, just to know that I'm not alone. And plus, the humor is pretty spot-on, too.

I find that I do best if I can get out of bed and get a shower and get out of pajamas. This is the biggest motivator for me. I know some days are so hard and it hurts so much just to exist and getting out of bed seems like the last thing that you want to do, but the longer that you lay in bed and don't move, the worse it's going to feel, at least in my case. I think that you just have to, you can't let the depression take over and you have to just get up and do life. You can't let the pain take over your life.

I feel strongly because a few years ago I tried to hurt myself. I felt I had nothing to give. All I was was a burden and I hurt all the time. And thankfully a Facebook Fibro page figured out what I was doing and they saved me. And I'm so glad I found a job I like. I'm doing well. People say I've looked better than I've looked in years. Even when you're down, you gotta keep trying. You just have to. It can get better and believe me, you would be missed.

The only encouragement that I could give anyone that has fibromyalgia, especially those that have recently been diagnosed or those that may not know that that's what you have, is that you're not crazy and no matter what you think or what you may not know to think, you are going through something that may be a long road and a long path. Just know that your path, it will be paved for you. You pave your way and take every moment for its moment, every minute by the minute, every hour by the hour. Don't rush anything. Take your time by the time and check with your doctors. Thank you.

We both know if you're watching this video that you have a hell of a time with it, like, all the time. But you're not the only person that's suffering in the world. And we managed to get to today, we can get to tomorrow. You just need to believe that you can. The pain can be insufferable, I know that. But just think about how strong of a person that you've become because of it.

The best words of encouragement I can give you is keep hunting. If something doesn't work for you, try the next thing. Keep going. There's new things coming out all the time. There's always going to be something new, being that this disease isn't even fully known about yet. So every time they look for something new and discover something new and you feel it might benefit you, try it.

Good afternoon, people. The best thing for encouragement, I can tell you, is to take care of you. Eat lean and green. Take medication if you must. I take Cymbalta myself, but the lowest amount. I have had this for a number of years, 15 that I can remember. Yes, it affects many things, but it doesn't affect the smile, the jokes that you can listen to, your upbeat heart from ticking, or anything else in your life unless you let it. So please take care of you. Exercise. Treat your body, because life is very short. Take care. Be well. Thanks.
