Causes - Fibromyalgia Video Transcripts

My fibromyalgia stems from a trauma, they couldn't say whether it was physical or mental. I lost my sister 15 years ago, hit rock bottom, didn't know which way to turn, suffered badly with depression and anxiety, then I had two severe falls and a car accident. Don't know which one it stems from but that's the answer they've given me.

I don't know what caused the existence of my fibromyalgia, but I can talk about some triggers, some things that cause flare-ups for me. One in particular is if any of my other chronic illnesses are triggered. So I have a condition in my feet that can cause pain and injury, which could cause a flare-up. Stress and anxiety are triggers for me and actually cause the major flare-up that ultimately helped me get a diagnosis. So definitely lowering the stress in my life is important. And then also allergies. So things that trigger my allergies and weather changes, which can trigger my migraines, can also trigger fibromyalgia flare-ups for me as well.

Hi, my name is Lori and I'm just going to talk a little bit about what I think caused this with me. I am a Desert Storm Veteran from 1991 and I started symptoms like within five, six years and I really didn't know what was going on. I would work outside or you know do whatever I'm doing and then if I sat down I couldn't get back up. I just had no energy, no strength in my legs and this has been going on for over 25 years. So finally a county service officer asked me, just out of the blue, thought I had fibromyalgia and she had all my records and come to find out it's an illness that comes with Desert Storm particularly with women. It's called presumptive so I was able to get a disability rating and get some help and I was put on gabapentin and I'm on a 2700 dose right now, three a day, so three pills three times a day. Not really sure it's helping me

Causes of fibro trauma.

I'm Alexandra. I had quite difficult pregnancies which put me through quite a bit of trauma. And I had to suffer some quite bad physical abuse when I was younger. They tend to think that fibromyalgia is set off from some kind of trauma and it can give you similar pains through your life. So my first pregnancy started it off. It wasn't bad. I always had that niggling kind of issues that kept coming up. But then after the second pregnancy, because it was so bad, I ended up just never being the same after it.

I have found the cause of fibromyalgia, there are five. A lot of stress to the body as in getting poor health, arms broken, legs broken, accidents, trauma to your head, a number of things. But the major thing is your diet. Please people, eat meat, lean and green, stay away from nightshade, alcohol, nicotine and sugar. Get rid of your stress, everything will be fine. I've had this for 25 years and I'm still on doing the same thing I've been doing, exercising, making sure that I eat correctly.

I'm fairly sure that my fibromyalgia was caused by trauma, sexual before the age of four, and I was raped at 13. Since I was young, I've always had what my mother called growing pains in my legs and my hips, and I think that is probably when it all began.

So I'm not exactly sure what causes fibromyalgia, but I've been told that there are a bunch of things that contribute to it. A lot of mental disorders, along with PTSD, trauma. I went through a lot of mental and physical abuse in relationships in my past. Also, I worked as an EMT and I had to work harder as a female and I incurred a lot of injuries. I also suffer from diabetes, which also contributes to it. And therefore, all my contributing factors are actually what end up being my cause for having fibromyalgia.

My understanding is that scientists aren't really sure of the cause of fibromyalgia, but that there might be a neurological cause and that's what seems right to me because I have a lot of Neurological issues like sensory issues and things like that that I think are affected by my brain function and my neurological function.

The reasons for causes for fibromyalgia, well it's been recognised on brain scans, it's the central nervous system gets very sensitive for the nerves, but also they reckon like post-traumatic stress in the past can cause it, so who knows, it's still very much an unknown.
