Treatments - Endometriosis Video Transcripts

The only treatment I've had so far is to have a Mirena coil put in after my pregnancy. This is okay but it takes about six months at least to settle down. So I did find it okay and then after that mine actually moved and came out. So it wouldn't put me off having it again and I expect I will have to have it again in the future. But just be aware that if you do get pain you should go and get it re-scanned again. But they're really used commonly and pushed quite a lot in the UK as they've got the lowest amount of hormone ingredients in them. So don't be scared about getting one fitted. If you've got endometriosis you can definitely deal with that and you can go to a specialist contraceptive clinic in the UK as my recommendation as they tend to be better at putting them in and know more about them.

As far as treatments go for endometriosis, there are a few ways to manage the pain, one of which is taking birth control pills or any form of birth control as this regulates hormones and can minimize the lesions that are developing in that region that you are experiencing pain in. Some other treatments are getting a laparoscopic surgery done where the surgeon is able to go in and remove those lesions and scar tissues and other tissues that are causing that pain. But other than that, treatments may just include getting lots of rest and just taking care of yourself in general.

With endometriosis, it's really important to have blood work tested and really find out where your levels are off. I personally had a severe iron deficiency from all the blood loss and was anemic. I was able to do IV iron infusion treatments, which completely changed my life and health and energy levels. IV iron is injected right into your bloodstream versus taking iron pills need to be digested. Just that digestion process was very painful for me, so it was hard to take the pills to get as much iron as I needed back into my body. After my three iron infusions and then surgery to do a laparoscopy to clean up my endometriosis, I have not had an iron deficiency in about nine months.
