It's important to understand what your beliefs are when it comes to health, healing, and taking care of an individual. There's a spectrum from death to optimal health, and all these professionals and providers fit within that spectrum. It's important to understand that we can basically break it into sick care, which is intervention care, so let's say a broken bone pathology, someone needs a medication or a surgery immediately. I think one of the biggest things you can do is be prepared to form your own niche. Everybody is out there doing something and everybody has talents and gifts. One of the things that I would say is focus on what makes you passionate about helping other people and find ways and techniques and things that you can do to gain the tools necessary to help others. One of the worst things you can do is get into this kind of a career for the money because it can be really rough and it's not that great of a motivation. So I think the best thing you can do is have your ideas set around helping others and find those things that make you passionate about chiropractic.

If you already know that you are wanting to become a chiropractor, look into what prerequisites you have to have done in undergrad, because you don't necessarily have to have a bachelor's degree to go to chiropractic school. I actually got my bachelor's degree at BYU-Idaho, and then upon going to chiropractic school, I found that out that you didn't have to have a bachelor's degree, and in the course of doing some of the required courses already in chiropractic school, you can actually finish your bachelor's while in chiropractic school. So I ended up getting another bachelor's while I was in chiropractic school. So if you're wanting to kind of accelerate the process and get through school faster, really look into that, figure out what prerequisites you've got to get done, and then apply to chiropractic school and finish your bachelor's there.
