Culture tip is to be careful about the relationship between mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Things are sensitive between the three entities. Hong Kong has a lot of animosity towards mainland China that is reciprocated by some and not by others, and the relationship between Taiwan and China is just messy. So be really careful there. Don't mistake Chinese people for Taiwanese people. Don't mistake Taiwanese people for Chinese people. Just be real careful about that whole thing. Chinese people are awesome because they have absolutely no verbal taboo. So don't be offended if they say stuff that's extremely direct. If you're overweight, they will tell you. If you have a lot of acne, they will tell you. So just be aware that they are extremely straightforward and there is nothing that is uncomfortable for them to talk about.
