To avoid slipping in the winter, it's a very serious problem. Your butt will get sore as you land on it. When you walk, don't go heel-toe or toe-heel because that pressure on a very small surface area of your heel will make you slip. So you land your feet as flat as you can on the ground, flat, move, flat. So you're kind of shuffling because you can't take as big of steps if you're going for flat foot, but land as much of your foot on the ice as you can, just that increased surface area, and you will slip much, much less. My second winter, I only slipped and fell once and a half, technically two, but I don't want to recount the second one. You can do it. It'll take some practice. Flat-footed, you'll survive the ice. It's a good time, guys. It's so great.

Do not bother bringing a coat with you. Coats here in the United States, unless you're coming from like North Dakota or Michigan or Minnesota, they don't measure up in Canada. It's far better to go up and get your coat there. Also, boots, golly. As nice as walking around in your shoes are, it's slippery. The ice is very, very slippery. And when you're in Winnipeg where it's super windy, that just compounds the issue. So make sure you bring a really good pair of boots. Heck, wait until you're in Canada and buy an even better pair of boots. That's my advice.

Buy your coat up here. If you're from America, the exchanger is very cheap for you to buy Canadian stuff in Canada and also they're just built to last the weather here. Some good places to look at is actually Walmart, Marks, Canadian Tire or UFA and that's United Farmers of Alberta. You can find that in like all the small towns and also Calgary there's one in Erdrey, Lethbridge, Brooks, Medicine Hat. They typically have the best bang for the buck in terms of high quality material and also cost doesn't cost too expensive.

It's generally pretty safe in Vancouver. In the winter time it gets dark really early, so it's kind of hard for the cars to see and there's a lot of blind spots when you're driving, so just be aware of any cars, wear reflective gear, and just stay alert when you're walking about.
