There's an old tradition in Newfoundland called mummering and it usually takes place after Christmas. It's a way to have fun in the middle of winter. Mummers are people who gather together and get into ridiculous homemade disguises and they go out visiting with their friends and family and they're supposed to guess who you are in your disguise. So you knock on the door and any mummers loud here and then they let you in or they tell you to go away. But you go and visit, play music if you play musical instruments, and dancing, eating, drinking and it's just good wholesome fun.

I have some friends who live in Canada and I've heard about all their holidays. We think it's super interesting that Canada Day and our 4th of July in the US are just four days apart. It's basically the same type of celebration, just celebrating the different countries. And then it's interesting that the Canada Thanksgiving is in October, the US is in November. Christmas is the same day. But anyways, yeah, I've been filled in on a lot of the Canadian holidays. An interesting fact, when I was younger, a teenager, we had a new family that moved in down the street and they actually were from Canada. And so their dad's birthday was on July 4th, our holiday, and then my dad's birthday was July 1st.

Two holidays I want to talk about real quick. The first is Canada Day. Yes, Canada has its own day. It's July 1st and it's super awesome. It's just a day to get together with your family. It's kind of like the Fourth of July in America, but Canada Day in Canada. Barbecue, get together with your friends and family, firework show. There's free concerts in the cities, but I guess you guys can't go to the free concerts. Just a day to celebrate Canada. The second one I want to talk about is Thanksgiving. So Canada has Thanksgiving at the beginning of October. That's just because the frost comes sooner in Canada because it's more north and so the harvest happens earlier. So it's still like a big turkey, mashed potato, gravy dinner. Get together with your family and friends and then just be thankful.
