One of my favorite things to do when I had some downtime was to go up to the crossroads at the man-wearing center and just hang out. There's a piano up there and sometimes there's a student playing the piano, but I really just love soaking in that college experience and just being around other people that are just chatting and having a good time. And sometimes they'll play games, they'll have somebody come up and do like trivia games and that kind of stuff up at the crossroads, so that's just a really kind of a fun place to hang out. It's usually pretty busy and loud so it's not really a great place to study, but if you just really want to soak in that college experience, I think the crossroads is just a really great place to hang out.
I was a music major, so I was in the Snow Building a lot, and I would highly recommend that anybody go to any of the performing arts things that BYU-Idaho has. There are theatrical performances, musicals, straight plays, there are choir performances, there are orchestral concerts, there are organ concerts. The organ in the Snow Building is amazing! It's so cool, and the organ students are incredible. There are so many amazing performing arts students at BYU-Idaho and they put on so many amazing performances. Go to choir concerts, go to theater performances, go to orchestral concerts. You will not be disappointed that you went. It's so amazing, the talent that we have at the school. So go to those things. Take advantage of it. It's so much fun.
In Idaho Falls, there's the aquarium, the zoo. In the fall, there's lots more fun things, picking apples. You can go to tons of pumpkin patches, haunted houses. The fall is definitely the best time of year to be in Rexburg.
There are actually a lot of fun things to do at BYU-Idaho and in Rexburg. Depending on the time of year it changes, but right now it's winter and so some things that me and my friends really love to do is get involved with the campus activities because there's always stuff going on and it's not outside, which is kind of nice when it's like five degrees, but right now intramural sports are going on so it's fun to go watch them and participate in them. Roller skating is on campus, there's bowling on campus, there's swing dancing on campus. I know they do like latin dancing and they'll do ballroom dancing and they do karaoke. It just kind of depends on the time of year. We just finished snow fest which was a whole week full of fun events including like pond skimming and a polar plunge and a concert and a basketball game. So getting involved with the things on campus is so fun.
So pickleball is a really big thing to do on campus. You can do it at the BYUI Heart Center, but it's often really full, so if you're going to go, you should probably go early morning, or you can also go to another park in the area. There are a lot of parks that have pickleball courts, and a lot of students like to do that, so that's a pretty good bonding experience to do with just about anybody.
Me and my wife's all-time favorite things to do is to go to the run-in for sweet shop on Main Street And it's just really cute shop It's got candy from all over the world and our favorite part is they have a huge root beer section like a root beer wall In the back all these different kinds of root beer from everywhere and cream sodas and orange sodas Anyway, all sorts of drinks for you to try out And so what we've been doing is just kind of we go on our anniversaries like anniversary month, you know and Get like a bottle each and then we'd come home and we we share and we try them and then we rate Which ones are good which ones are bad so that when other people come into town we can take them and recommend yeah, this is the good kind from Missouri or from Jackson, you know, so there's lots of cool things. I definitely recommend run-in for sweets
When it's warmer outside and you can kind of get around to places, there are a lot of really, really beautiful places around Rexburg that me and my friends went to last spring semester and it was so much fun. There's some civil defense caves that are probably 30, 20, 30 minutes away that are really fun. There's Mesa Falls, there's Yellowstone, there's Jackson Hole, there's the Palisades Lake, there's Paddlesack Lake, which is beautiful. There are so many reservoirs, so many hikes, so many waterfalls, and so many mountains to climb. It's so much fun. There are so many things to do. There's so many rivers that you can go float down. There's the Warm Slough River, which is pretty close. Bridge jumping, a lot of people like to do that. So there's a lot to do outside.
The Outdoor Resource Center on campus, it's inside the stadium, has so many really cool things and resources for you to do, whether it's kayaking, paddle boarding, camping during the summer, they have horseback riding, they have snowboarding classes, they have so much to do, definitely check them out and it will definitely open your eyes to what you can do around here.
Oh man, there's so many things to do at Rexburg. And I feel like there's even more things to do now than when I was there. Cause I went to visit the, I did a comedy show there a year ago. And it's like, man, I just love this town. They've got a Fat Cats there, which is a place where you can bowl mini golf. They've got so many intramurals. They have amazing facilities, softball, basketball, racquetball. Like I was doing like three or four different intramural sports teams while I was there. It was just so much fun. They have bowling. They have just, it's just a great campus. There's just so many social things to do. There's always activities. I feel like there's just always different groups going out. They used to do, I don't know if they still do this, but they did a singing hymns under the stadium bleachers every Sunday. That was always a fun tradition. And there's just so much things to do. And I bet there's even more things there to do now.
So Rexburg is interesting. It's not like Provo. I'm not going to say that Provo has less to do than Rexburg. Rexburg definitely does not have nearly as much to do as Provo, that is for sure. But if you are just bored, you're tired of being cold in the freezing, you know, just looking at snow all summer, all winter, BOLU-Idaho does a lot to have a lot of activities. So they sent out a weekly activity newsletter to all the students. I highly recommend looking at that if you're wanting to get into things. They have a lot of activities like roller skating or they have a ropes course in the summer, dancing, just a lot of different things on there. Also, another recommendation, go to the heart building. You can rent out a lot of their equipment and just do simple sports. There's a lot of fun things with that as well. You can do volleyball or racquetball, a lot of fun things like that. Also volleyball too, that one's been a lot of fun.
In regards of things to do at BYU-Idaho, I would say that intramurals is a great way to get to know people at BYUi because they don't have any collegiate sports. They have a ton of intramural opportunities for pretty much any sport you can think of. So I highly recommend just doing a few of them and trying it out, seeing how it goes. You can meet some great people and play the sport that you enjoy playing.
There are a lot of fun things to do in Rexburg. It really depends on what weather is going to be like during the season that you're here, during what semester you're here, but there are a lot of fun activities no matter what season it is. Whether you want to do outdoor activities like sports like spikeball and soccer, which are more springtime ones, or sledding during fall and winter, basketball that you can play anytime indoors. There are great parks nearby and from the school, it's really like, depending on where you live, it's pretty much a walking distance and there is fun games that you can play like card games and things like that with just a single deck.
