The pros - Brigham Young University-Idaho Video Transcripts

So there are a lot of pros, in my opinion, to going to BYU-Idaho. I graduated already, but I loved it there. One of the biggest things for me was, like, that it's so small. And it's not tiny, but it's much smaller than a bunch of other schools, and even it's much smaller than Provo. When I was growing up, I always heard about, you know, classes that are hundreds of people, and your teacher never knows your name and knows who you are. But when I got there, and the classes weren't any bigger than my high school classes, and I'm friends on Facebook with some of my professors, and one of my professors was even a witness at my wedding. So it's really nice.

I think a pro about BYU-Idaho is that it's so close to the sand dunes and that's always awesome for sledding in the winter or bonfires in the summer. So I definitely encourage you guys to go and do that when you're bored and there's nothing to do in Oxford.

The biggest pro of going to BYUI for me was definitely having an experience with so many other people who believed in the same religious background and doctrine that I did. Because I grew up in Oregon and there's not a lot of people that are going to be in your same church with you, which wasn't a problem for me. I had lots of friends that were Christian or otherwise, but it was nice to be surrounded by people for one time in my life that believed strongly in the same things that I did and it made dating a lot easier. But I will say that just because somebody believes the same things that you do and have the same religious background does not mean that their dating life is going to be a safe environment for you.

Things I loved about BYU-Idaho, I loved the small town feel of Rexburg. My family is from BYU, or is from southeastern Idaho, so I loved connecting with my roots. Also, I felt like BYU-Idaho, I attended BYU as well, and I felt like BYU-Idaho was just more friendly. It's a little bit, you know, it's a little bit smaller, but I felt like I could strike up a conversation with anyone. I felt like I had more better friends at BYU-Idaho than I did at BYU. And those are the kind of relationships you can make in Rexburg, because it's so small, and it's so fun. If you can brave the cold, it is a great, great place.

I personally felt like one of the best parts of BYU-Idaho was the people. I have a lot of good friends there and I just love BYU-Idaho people. I just felt like they're very open and welcoming and kind and they're very, they just want to have fun, like they just want to enjoy themselves and I personally felt like my experience there, people were very willing to include me and they're fun. I felt like people just weren't very judgmental, they're very open about, like you know, people struggle with their own things and I felt like they're okay with that and I loved BYU-Idaho for the people. I thought that they were just very relaxed, they didn't care much about what your problems were.

One of the big reasons I went to BYU-Idaho is because it had a really small average class size compared to a lot of places. I think it only had one class that had like 100 people enrolled. Most were 25 or 15 people, which is pretty abnormal at colleges.

There are so many pros about BYU-Idaho. The culture, the people there, the opportunities that are available there are just huge. The way that you're able to get to know teachers and classmates on a more personal level, because it's a smaller university, is a huge benefit of going to BYU-Idaho. And then you're able to go and take those connections that you've made after you graduate and say, hey, I could really use help in this one category. And I remember so-and-so was super good at that topic. And you can take those relationships and move forward with them. So the biggest pro of BYU-Idaho is the ability to connect with a lot of wonderful people.

I could go on and on about the pros of BYU-Idaho. It has been a life-changing experience. You hear a lot of the negative up front, but the people you meet here are some of the most incredible people. The professors here love you and they care about you and want you to be successful. You have the opportunity to grow here in ways that no other college can offer, not even BYU in Provo or Hawaii. BYU-Idaho was created to be a disciple training center and this is where you can grow spiritually, academically, physically, mentally, emotionally, in every single way, in a safe place with people who truly love and care about you. You will not regret coming here as long as you come here with a positive attitude.

One of the great pros of BYU-Idaho, now I really like this and it's really helpful especially when you are needing to build up your, I guess your connections you could say. So one of the big things is that the professors are awesome. The professors generally love to talk to you and they are taught to emphasize you. They're taught to help you out, to help you graduate, to help you in everything. They're not merciless like a lot of other professors are in other universities. They're very helpful and that is really nice for any of those people who are really needing to, what's the word, have a career change or something like that, they're having a hard time. Professors are always there to help out which is very helpful. Kind of makes up for a lot of the other flaws that BYU-Idaho may have.

When it came to going to BYUI, I do have to admit it was not my first choice, but having graduated from there I was able to actually realize that BYUI was the best fit for me. I do better with smaller class sizes. Studying things like biochemistry makes it so that I was able to get that one-on-one with my professor and be able to get just more attention and more help than I think I would have gotten at a bigger university where there's just too many students. Another thing that I thought was super helpful was the tutoring center. It was basically where I lived and where I was able to kind of get that additional help that was so important for me to be able to graduate. And the other thing is just like, I feel like I was able to get more, get to know more of the people because the college is smaller.

Things I love about BYU-Ottawa is that everybody's kind of in the same position and in the same place, and you just feel the unity in a lot of ways. For example, sometimes they would give invitations at devotional or something like that, and so many people go to devotional, and so literally with everybody trying to do that, you notice a difference in the day-to-day life. Sometimes it was, it turned into conversations in class, sometimes it turned like one time they invited us to wave at every person we saw in the first week of school, and it just made it an even friendlier place than it already was, because people already did that. Or one time they invited the girls, if you like, somebody to like use a little code word, if you like, so that they get the hint that you want to go on a date or whatever. And so just like fun little things like that.

BYU-Idaho is a great place to be at. I think the biggest pros are the people, the environment, and the education that you get. I think the people that go there are just super inclusive, so welcoming, so nice. It's also just a great environment to be around to surround yourself with other people that have maybe similar standards as you and get away from a lot of the worldly aspects of college and just focus on making friends, having good times, wholesome experiences, and also focusing on your education and your degree. And the education aspect is so great. Teachers are so understanding. If you have any questions, they're always able to answer them and work through things. Just as long as you communicate, communicate, communicate. If you have a problem or something comes up, just talk to your professor. They're so understanding, and they'll help you on any problem that you have.

Some of the pros of going to BYU-Idaho is that it is a college town and I really like that because it's the community here is really really awesome and it's very tight-knit and there's a lot of things you need around. There's a couple grocery stores, there's things to do, there's places to eat, there's a hospital, there are banks, there's literally everything as well as a lot of outdoor activities. It's very affordable, tuition is really cheap and they do a lot to try and keep it that way. Professors are really incredible, there's a lot of really amazing resources on campus to help you succeed and to have fun. Housing is very very affordable as well compared to other places and it is just a very beautiful place to be as well.

It's very affordable. It's a dedicated campus where a lot of inspiration can happen and that the professors genuinely care about their students. Having attended various universities, I can say that BYU-Idaho has some of the best faculty and staff that I've ever met. I graduated 11 years ago, and there's professors that I still talk to to this day who have become some of my closest advisors and friends.

You have fun. You get out of your comfort zone. You grow spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. You gain wisdom. You come to know Jesus Christ and God more, meaning you're now starting to get closer to obtaining eternal life. And you'll get married if you get out of your comfort zone.

The pros of BYUI, just like any other university, it's all about the people that you meet. And fortunately, because BYU-Idaho is a, I would say it's actually a pro that it has the honor code. The honor code gives you an opportunity to up your standards, which ultimately makes you a better disciple of Christ. And so if you meet other people that are doing the same thing, and at least for me, it was definitely great, like in the dating department while I was there. But yeah, it's really just the people that you meet at BYU-Idaho, I would say is the biggest pro for me going there.

I went to BYU-Idaho and BYU-Provo, and you know, BYU-Idaho sometimes gets a rapper, like people are like, oh you had to go there because you didn't get accepted into BYU. Nothing could be further from the truth. BYU-Idaho is such an amazing school, and I feel like there's so many pros even compared to, I mean, compared to Provo. I think it's way more, there's so much more camaraderie at BYU-Idaho, in my opinion at least. I feel like the campus, like, it's just a friendlier place. I feel like people are more outgoing, and it's just, I don't know, it was such a fun, welcoming environment, and I was a shy kid coming out of high school, and I felt like I met so many, people went out of their way to make me feel included in my wards, in my apartments, and even in my classes, that I just, I just love the camaraderie, and I love the small-town college feel, so yeah, I love my experience at BYU.

For me, the pros would be that you're going to succeed if you want to succeed. If you want to put the work in and get to know people, get to know teachers, this school is for you and you can really thrive here. I really love that there's free tutoring on campus for any of the, almost any of your classes. The spirit that is in the in the college, the people that are around you for the part, they want you to grow, they want you to succeed. And so it's really just a benefit to you to come to this school and to experience all the things that Rexburg has to offer.
