Handshake can be really important. There's a lot of opportunities on there. There's new ones being added all the time. Also, there's often, you know, emails sent out or things from professors, so you want to try to pursue those. As well, try to get involved with any society that might pertain to what you're pursuing. There's often opportunities there to network, to meet people, reach out through LinkedIn, try to create that network, and you'll find that often those opportunities will appear in places you didn't expect.

All right, so I'm an exercise physiology major and for internships in the exercise physiology department, you have to have either a 100-hour internship, which is one credit, or a 200-hour internship, which is two credits. If you do the one credit, you have to do two of them, but for opportunities, a lot of exercise phys majors want to be with physical therapists or occupational therapists, and so there are a ton of resources in the area, in the Rexburg, Idaho Falls area, lots of different clinics that are always willing to have students come and shadow or intern with them. I currently work at Advanced Physical Therapy and Wound Center, which is a really, really great program to help students learn and write all their stuff down and get the hours that they need for PT or OT school. So I recommend just looking everywhere. Everyone's always willing to have a student come.

There are many internship opportunities on campus and off campus, local, sometimes a few miles away. So if you're looking for the few miles away, find someone who you can carpool with. If you both are in the same place, go together, learn together, have fun.

At BYU-Idaho, I feel as though a lot of the classes, the teachers are really open to helping you figure out what internships you want to do or finding internships to do. There's an organization, I believe it's the... Oh, I can't remember, but they are specifically to help you get internships. So it's not just your teachers that are helping, but also other other organizations on campus can help you get internships. And if you just talk to your teachers about it, they can help you as well. And in different societies or things like that, they can also help you find internships that are in your field of study or in what you're desiring to find one in.

I know that the company Melaleuca is in Idaho Falls and for me when I was studying at BYU-Idaho before I transferred to BYU, I was studying business management and I know that Melaleuca loves students that are studying business management, specifically operations, just because they're located in Idaho Falls and they're not too far away. So I know plenty of people that studied business management like me that worked and got internships at the company Melaleuca, which you've probably heard of.

For all those finance, economics, or business majors, including data analytics, or all those who are business related in some aspect, right, I would say the RBDC is just such a great opportunity to get internships. I got an internship there to work in a merge, an acquisition, which helped me in the future to land a job at Goldman Sachs, and I think this is a great opportunity to really, you know, put your skills to the best, even though it's just, you know, like a place where, you know, it's offered by the school and they don't pay you, but if you get the most of it, right, you can really land a great opportunity in the future where you can put that in your resume and make it more impactful for those of your employee targets, right? So, I would say take advantage of the RBDC in case you don't land an internship.

If you are in the social sciences, especially social work, marriage and family studies, early childhood, anything like that, a really great place to internship is called Madison Cares and it is the mental health department of the school district in Rexburg. So it's a walkable distance. Usually there is some driving that needs to be done, but usually there's enough other interns that can drive that. It works out. Or employees that will drive you. But you get opportunities to do things such as the social skills club or one-on-one visits with students in schools. Or if you're in the early childhood department, then you would do things like prepare activities every week for families to come with their young children.

Don't wait until the last semester to start looking for your internship. Start looking after you've gotten some of your major courses out of the way and I highly recommend joining or participating in either the clubs or the societies in your degree field and network using the teachers that are there. They're very supportive.

Internship opportunities can be really hard, but definitely talk with people in your major. I was able to get my internship by just communicating with other classmates and to find a connection that way and connecting with the staff of like your department, the internship head. They're all very, very helpful in finding something that's the best fit for you.

Hi, so I'm actually someone that accepts interns for recreational therapy. Good ways to find internships is through the Career Center. Look on Facebook, literally whatever your major is. Internships, people are all over that. LinkedIn is huge and honestly the best thing you could do is just call the facility or call the company. Email whoever you're trying to get a hold of and be like, hey I'm interested in learning from you. Bring something to the table and you'll be able to get an internship, no problem.
