The best student job that I've ever heard of is auxiliary maintenance. I did it for the MTC and it's the most laid-back open job ever. You basically choose your own schedule and it's hard work and you learn a lot but it's also very accommodating for a busy student.

One of the student jobs that I would recommend is there's a job with like the tech or the AV. It was really good because yeah, you still had stuff to do, but you also had a lot of time to just sit and do homework, which was super nice. And then I actually got to do the teleprompting for the devotionals on Tuesday. So I was the one behind the scenes kind of in the basement of the Marriott Center guiding the teleprompt. That one was really cool. You got to meet a lot the speakers and everything because their prep room was right next to our teleprompting room. So that was a good one.

When it comes to finding student jobs on campus, it can be kind of hard unless you know someone that knows of a job position, but I know at least in the chemistry and biochemistry department, if you are in biochemistry or chemistry, you're able to actually apply for something that's called a URA, which is an undergrad research assistantship, and it's always great when you can actually apply some of the stuff that you're learning in classes and then be able to use it in a job, and so usually these jobs are a little bit more competitive because you do need to have some experience, but it's always good to just reach out to your professors that you have that maybe you can either be a TA and then also just either talk to some advisors, and the best way is just really to reach out to your teachers and being able to get the job.

I have worked a couple different student jobs on campus, but something I love the most about student jobs is that obviously there's some bad ones, there's some good ones, there's some okay ones, but that allows you really to like go to class and then hop over to your job and then hop back if you need to. And because it's a BYU job, you can be like, I have to go take an exam, and they're usually pretty flexible with you and understanding your student because it's a student job. And so I think working on campus and having that opportunity is one of the biggest blessings of any student, any campus job, especially at BYU.

One of the student jobs I'm familiar with is working at like the Creamery's. I have a cousin that works there and you can work like doing the cashier, cooking the food or even working the back and prepping the meals.

To be totally honest, most student jobs are going to be making between $13 and $15 an hour, but if you know someone who works for Moose Movers, like Caleb Johnson or Noah Zimmerman, both cool dudes, you could get a job that pays $18 an hour, so you're making more money per hour and there are no commitments with a very flexible schedule.

You can work at Taco Bell. I work for OIT or BYU. It is not too bad to get a job here, but it is more competitive. If you're looking for something more technical, like I am doing computers, it is more harder for me. But yeah, it is a great way to make some money. For the most part, I would say that they pay very good wages compared to other places, and they're very flexible around their schedule. So yeah, I really recommend it.

There was a time where I needed a job very quick, and so I was hired on at BYU Print and Mail and the Bindery, which is essentially where you just like bind books. I will be honest, it was not my favorite job because there's a lot of on-your-feets doing the same monotonous thing over and over again for hours, but they were very flexible with my school schedule and my classes. I could work whenever I wanted essentially, which was super nice, and they hire on a lot of people and are constantly hiring, so if you feel like Provo's really hard to get a job because everyone is applying, it's not the best, most fun thing, but there is that option.

Okay, so I work for the math department on BYU campus and I'd say one thing you can't be afraid of is to ask for a raise because chances are you can and you get one every semester which is nice. I recently started taking on more hours and so I said I can do that if I get a raise and guess what? I'm making more money now so love that for me, love that for you, maybe in the future.

I'm out here with the Lifey crew. I work in the carpentry department at BYU and it's sick because we're building the library right now and I can just go for my classes and then go build stuff and make some money and then I can go back right back to class just like that and it's a sweet job I'm learning how to do carpentry so hit it up try it out it's $11.50 no $12 an hour

Student jobs are a great way to get involved on campus. There's an entire database that compiles all of the student jobs. If you are thinking about getting a job, make sure you do it before the semester starts. Everyone's going to be trying to get a job the first week or so, so if you're coming to campus, make sure that you apply three to four weeks before you're on campus. They can do a virtual interview, that's totally fine if you're from out of state, but it gets incredibly competitive once the semester starts because everyone's applying. So if you want to make sure that you get the job that you want, just apply a few weeks before the semester starts. And then in the middle of the semester, it's a little bit harder to get a job because most of those positions are filled, so just make sure that you're checking those and if a position comes up that you want, that you are ready to apply for that.

Hey, there's a ton of student jobs at BYU campus, but I think that some of the greatest jobs you can have are working at credit unions. They have a ton of experience and they're super awesome to their employees.

Just an advice for freshmen trying to find jobs at BYU, there's a website you can go on and they have a lot of different jobs that you can do on campus that are really close to the studio housing which is so nice and also most of the jobs you get paid and then additionally you get paid in dining dining dollars like so they can eat on campus and so that is a really big piece of advice I have for those freshmen out there.
Video 14 Transcript
I worked at the Kramery for a bit and it was super fun. I got to make a bunch of new friends and it's just a really good way to make connections with your peers. I worked with students who are my age, I'm a freshman, and people who are older than me and then like made super good friends with supervisors and got to know like the managers and things like that. They're super sweet and it's just a really nice break from school. You get to work and also make a bit of money on the side so I would definitely recommend doing student jobs. BYU does a really good job of organizing those and it was also a really flexible schedule which was great for me with school and yeah, would definitely recommend.

If you are an RM, you should definitely work at the MTC. It's a really great experience and it's probably the most fulfilling part-time job you can find on campus.

Student jobs are awesome. I think there's kind of two ways to approach student jobs. I've done both in different stages of my life where it's like I just need money coming in, something that doesn't break my school schedule because I'm trying to figure things out. So like food service, helping like clean buildings, like whatever it might be that just kind of can help with like money coming in. But then also as you're moving through your major or program or things like that, there's tons of jobs. We just transitioned to a new app called Workday. It used to be on Yjobs, but now it's in Workday and it's in there. Hit up the job opening, see what's available. And whether it just be about money or about you progressing on your resume or something, there's generally an opportunity open.

BYU has a lot of different student jobs that you can hold while you're in school and finding a job on campus is really nice because you're already on campus so you're close to your classes and everything and you don't have to spend money on gas commuting and you also get the FICA tax exempt which is super nice but there are lots of different opportunities within dining, different office jobs, a research position and you can even ask professors if that you'd like to be a teaching assistant for if you can work for them. So BYU has a lot of different jobs that you can hold that I think are really helpful and I loved working on campus as a student.

I've worked multiple different jobs for BYU since I've been here and my favorite one by far has been the audio visual department. I've worked for the audio visual delivery it's called AV delivery and you help set up tech equipment and like answer questions for professors and other people who rent equipment but there's also like a good amount of downtime because there's a lot of places since COVID that now have like in-house technology so they don't necessarily need stuff set up for every class period anymore so you like have time where you can do homework sometimes which is super nice. And all the co-workers at least one there right now like are super awesome.

It's not really a job, but it does pay you. It's donating plasma. You can either do it at Griffles or you can do it at BioLife, but BioLife is in American Fork. It's a really good way to earn quick money. It takes about 45 minutes each time and you earn like 40 to 60 dollars. It's a good way to just earn extra cash on the side.

So one of the best student jobs is being a teaching assistant or a TA. It's great, great experience to get on your resume and it's also pretty easy. I know it can be intimidating but it's pretty easy work and the hours are really flexible which is great.

Great place to work down here while you're in school is Grubhub because you can work your own hours and fit into your schedule and it's a lot of fun. You just drive around, deliver food, super laid back.

So when I was a student at BYU, I had two mean jobs that I had. One was working for the provost school district with adult handicapped people, and that was great. And then the second one was another buddy of mine who was in the accounting program. We actually had a deck building business, which was extraordinarily hard work, but we actually made really good money.

BYU offers a lot of great on-campus jobs. I worked as a radio producer for BYU Radio and it helped me so much in getting my next job after that. So really take advantage of the opportunities that you have to learn and to get a job and I highly recommend it. Getting an on-campus job is also super convenient because you don't have to drive.
Video 24 Transcript
Two months before COVID hit, I started the job at the BYU IT department. It was actually a super nice job. I got paid pretty well for a student job and you get paid up to like I think $21 an hour which is pretty good and the hours are pretty good. So if you're looking for something and you're good with IT, I'd do that.
Video 25 Transcript
I think the AV delivery job is the easiest job out there and you can do a lot of homework on site, so super good for school.
Video 26 Transcript
I have had two student jobs while I've been at BYU. The first was working at the distribution center on campus and that is a great part-time job, super flexible, super great people, it's a wonderful environment and atmosphere so if you get the chance definitely work there. I also would recommend being a TA, it's great to build connections with professors, help you to be able to learn super important communication skills and a lot of patience with the students. So if you get a chance to be a TA definitely don't hesitate to accept that job and just find a professor that you work really well with and in your field hopefully so that you can be able to make good connections and networking for future opportunities.

Honestly, I know the CSC, the Culinary Service Center, is always hiring and looking for people, so that's a good place to check out. They're pretty easy to work with schedule-wise, and obviously some of the daytime jobs at the library. You can just go on the BYU website and look for jobs. There's so many options. One of the most popular ones is definitely at the MTC, though, and if you can't find a teaching job because some people just want to teach, they have a bunch of other great jobs you can do there, and then eventually you can get a teaching job. So, if you're wanting to work at the MTC, I would definitely just look at any option, even if it's not the first one you want, because over time you can get priority to be able to work in other areas.
Video 28 Transcript
One great thing about BYU is there are so many student jobs. Everything is student-run. There are student job opportunities everywhere, so look out for them. When I was a freshman, I had an early morning job at the cafeteria, and I only worked two hours like three or four times a week in the morning, and it was just enough to give me that little extra money that I needed. And then I kind of grew into that where I worked more hours as I got farther along in my college career. But once you start one job on campus, it's easier to get another job and transfer over if you came from another place on campus. So start it early, and just look at those job postings. There are job opportunities everywhere at BYU.

Student jobs can range from anything from working in the kooger eat at Taco Bell to being a student teacher and I am a student teacher so I teach and I give grades in like the social dance area of the dance department and it's a really great job. All student jobs work around your schedule. Their priority is your schooling so they understand that school comes first and they will work your work schedule around their school schedule and they hire enough students to make that possible. So if you have a really busy schedule, they're definitely the people you should be working for. There's a website specifically for student jobs, check there, they update it regularly and they make the application process really easy. Sometimes you'll find jobs through your own college or your own department and those are also super beneficial but that's definitely a really great place to start is with student jobs.

As a student at BYU, it's super awesome because I feel like I have the time to have a part-time job. I work at the Utah State Hospital. It's a psychiatric hospital where I take care of people with mental disabilities.
