so my favorite police beat story was when i was a freshman an actual police story that they've had in the daily universe was about a ta that reported her four oreos being stolen and i was like this is what we're reporting on at byu but then i'm almost like byu nothing really happened so anyways don't leave your oreos around somebody might steal them

So in the fall of 1986, I'm fresh off my mission and just headed down to BYU for the first time and I didn't know campus. I had my girlfriend on the back of my old busted up motorcycle and I'm trying to get her back to Deseret Towers and I'm over by where the Museum of Art is now and the old Heritage Halls and I can see Deseret Tower and I saw this big huge wide sidewalk that led basically straight up there and there wasn't anybody on the sidewalk or not hardly anybody so I thought oh what the heck so I bought my motorcycle up over the curb start heading up towards uh Deseret Towers uh very efficient uh way to get there and out of the bushes jumps this campus cop right in front of me stops me and I'm like totally shocked. First of all the question is what's a cop doing hanging out in the bushes by Heritage Hall but that's another issue. Give me a ticket and I wish I could say that was the only ticket I got on that motorcycle on campus but that would not be true.
