An outdoor activity I would recommend is hiking the Y. I'm sure other people have said that on here, I haven't looked, but it's just super fun and easy activity to get active, and I don't know, just like it's the Y, and so it's something that every BYU student must do, and if you get a fun group of friends together and do it all together, I think it's super fun. I also recommend doing it during like sunset time, and then you get at the top and you like see the whole valley with the sunset. It's so pretty.

Geocaching is a great outdoor activity. I think you can still get GPSs from one of the library desks and you can take them out and go find some little treasure boxes that are hidden all over the world really, but there's quite a few around campus. So geocaching, look it up.

Fun, cheap outdoor activity that you can do in Provo, disc golf. A bit of an investment first, maybe like 20-30 bucks, but after that, free as many times as you want. You can do it with groups of people, dates, super fun.

I think Utah is a super awesome place because there's a ton of outdoor activities and I think some of the funnest things you can do are attend the state and national parks and go on hikes there as well as even if you don't like to hike there's a lot of times fun places you can just drive to and look at that have a lot of really cool things.

Every 4th of July they have Stadium Fire at Lovell Edwards Stadium and if you go up to like the area of the Mazer building or around there you can always see the fireworks so that's something fun to do in the summertime.

Okay, so my freshman year, I don't even know who it was. Someone put together this group and just knew a couple people there. There were a bunch of people there. It was so fun and we played Fugitive on campus. I think that's what it's called. Usually you play it where someone's in a car, right, and if they catch you then or like they see you then they go out. But we started up at like the clock tower and went all the way down like across campus to I don't even know what building. Anyway, so we went like down to the bottom and whoever were like the cops, I think, had to tag you and then you would lose or whatever and then you had to make it to like the checkpoint at the end to win if you weren't one of the cops or something. It was seriously so fun. Like we'd sneak through buildings or something like go through the library to try to not get caught, like all that stuff. Honestly, such a fun idea and just a good way to spend the night, honestly.

I don't know if this fully counts as an outdoor activity, but a lot of times me and my friends will walk to the temple. It's a good way to just get outside and get your body moving, but then you also get the spiritual exposure too by going to the temple.

One of my favorite places to go is a little less well known as Payson Canyon. It's super beautiful. There's a lake up at the top and not too many people go there.
Video 9 Transcript
My favorite outdoor activity is probably hiking and I think I like rock, I like to rock climb. I think the best places to rock climb is probably down in southern Utah, it's just pretty. And yeah, I think hiking is always super fun because you get to be out in the sun, get to kind of disconnect, which I feel like is very important and it's good for the mind, good for the soul, good for the body.

My favorite thing about moving to Utah has been skiing, and it is the best stress reliever. It does take up a lot of time, so while you're in school it's a little bit hard, but just being able to go on a Saturday for a few hours and go skiing, it is so nice to be able to get out of nature, get out of Provo, and just really appreciate this beautiful state that we live in.

Although skiing and sledding is like an awesome time, awesome thing to do in the winter time, one of my favorite things to do is just simply stargaze, especially if you go up into the canyon around Vivian Park or Sundance or Alpine Loop, like the stars up there are amazing and they're very, very, very bright.

I'm from North Carolina, so moving to Utah and when it first started to snow, I was in pure misery. And the best way to survive the winters here is to learn how to enjoy the snow. So, I picked up skiing. There's tons of other outdoor activities that you can get into, but if you're, well, even if you're from Utah, the winters can be really challenging, and the best way to get through them is to find something that you can enjoy in the snow. Whether that's snow skiing, snowboarding, whatever it is, make sure you find something that you can enjoy.

People can usually get depressed in the winter. Like, you know, it's dark, it's snowy, it's cold, so you gotta learn how to play in the snow. Sundance is like super chill. It's like only like 15-20 minutes away from campus. You just go up Provo Canyon. They usually plow it so even like sedans can get up there. You don't need like a four-wheel drive vehicle, but you can get like daily ski rentals from Sammy's Ski Shop, which is right at the mouth of the canyon. That's what I would recommend. They're like only like 60 bucks a day, and then you can get a day past that Sundance for like 80 bucks or whatever. You can just go skiing. They do night skiing, which is a fun too, where you just can ski at night. But really, if you're just having a rough week, go skiing. Try something fun. Get out in the snow. Sundance has some awesome places where you can learn how to ski or even just go skiing with friends.

I will always recommend going to find some people to play volleyball with. There are volleyball courts at Heritage Halls, at Helaman Halls, all over Provo, indoor and out. Just go find some people to play. People are super friendly and welcoming to newcomers, so just go find someone to play with. You'll make a lot of friends that way.
Video 15 Transcript
So we just got done floating the Provo River. It's a super, super fun thing to do at BYU. You can go and rent inner tubes at Outdoors Unlimited, and that's pretty close to campus. And then you can you can look up the specific starting and ending points. But we started at Lower Deer Creek Road, and then we ended up at Vivian Park. And it was a lot of fun. It's the middle of September, and it wasn't that cold. Like, it was pretty good. So that's definitely something to do if you're into outdoor things.
Video 16 Transcript
Walking around Temple Square at Christmas is absolutely beautiful. There's lights everywhere, there's hot chocolate stands. It's a really fun place to go with friends, with a date. There's usually some missionary singing. It's a really fun event during the Christmas time. Check it out.

There are several outdoor activities. One of my favorite was to get a group of people together and go to a park nearby, there's so many to choose from, and play yard games or volleyball or whatever we could find at that park or had equipment for and just be outside in the park. So that was a great outdoor activity.

When that snow hits, because it will, if you've never done it before, you have to try skiing or snowboarding at least once. And there's even classes you can take. So you can get college credit for going up and skiing in the mountains. So take advantage of that.
Video 19 Transcript
Homestead Crater in Heber is an underground hot spring that you can swim in and if you go into the winter you can kill two birds with one stone and also hit up the ice castles.
Video 20 Transcript
One of the best things about BYU is for sure how close it is to all the recreation around. I myself love mountain biking and I love skiing and there's incredible mountain biking and skiing really really close by. Yesterday actually I didn't have class until a little later in the day and so I just threw my skis in my car and I went up to Sundance for a few hours and skied some runs and then came back and studied a little bit and then went to class. And so you know you really are right up against the mountains here in Provo which is really awesome and there's a lot of fantastic ways to have some fun outside.
Video 21 Transcript
You can ride and hike or walk the mountains. You've got the lakes and rivers. You can fish. You can swim. You can float the river. You can ride a kayak down the Provo River. You can fish at the lake. You've got indoor things like Provo Beach where you can go do their little surfing thing. You can do the other activities that exist there. It's very easy to get outside at BYU and enjoy the great outdoors. When you start in the fall, that's when all the leaves in the canyons are changing colors and that, if you've never seen that, that's beautiful. You need to take a ride up through the alpine loop and take a look.
Video 22 Transcript
Walks are my favorite. It is so gorgeous there, and the weather is just incredible. But walks to clear your mind, walks with friends. Take your camera with you, your phone, and take some of the beautiful vistas around there. It's just gorgeous, the mountains, and just even the campus is kept so beautifully. So the pictures, it's a great place for photographers. What about being part of the intramural system? Oh my goodness, that's so fun. So you meet so many people playing in the sports there, but the mountains, if you can get up into the mountains, oh my goodness, that is just so gorgeous.
Video 23 Transcript
Hiking the Y can be very difficult but you should do it at least once when you're a student at BYU. It is so fun to make it to the top and just feel so achieved and to just look out over the valley and it's a super beautiful and fun BYU experience.
Video 24 Transcript
One of the most fun outdoor activities is to join intramural sports. I'm on a frisbee team right now and even though I'm not very good at frisbee it's fun and I get to make new friends.
Video 25 Transcript
My favorite part about living at Heritage is that there are basketball courts and a sand volleyball pit just right outside the apartments and you can just go out and play sports whenever you want and it's so much fun. You can just check out some sports equipment from the Heritage buildings and it's super fun. You can just grab a bunch of friends and go out there and one day I even played ultimate frisbee out in the mud when it was pouring rain and there's a slip and slide that was super fun and so just going outside is just amazing here. Good weather most of the time at least so far in the semester so good outdoor activities.
Video 26 Transcript
My favorite outdoor activity that I have recently gotten into is rock climbing. I started doing it a few years ago and I would say it's just a little bit expensive up front unless you just rent your stuff, but outdoor rock climbing is so fun just because it's challenging and you learn new things. I think it is also really good for your health, but do not try to climb. I would recommend sport climbing with like the rope and the harness and the quick draws. That's just a personal preference though, so rock climbing. If you're looking for a new outdoor activity, try it.

As a New Englander coming out to BYU, I was constantly amazed just looking around at all the mountains. You are a fool if you're not going to go out into those mountains, go for some simple hikes. There's lots of things that you should do. You get to take advantage of those mountains. Now I live out in Kansas, and I actually genuinely miss the mountains at school. They're just so pretty. There's so much natural beauty in Utah. You've got to go out and see it.
Video 28 Transcript
A while ago I hiked Stewart Falls and I think it is honestly the best hike I've done in Provo. It's like moderate difficulty, it's pretty short, it's only like four miles, but the view at the end, like the payoff is so good. I would totally recommend it.
Video 29 Transcript
I remember going nighttime skiing. It actually turned on the lights for several hours. I think it was bright and solitude. Even though it was really cold, that was fun.
Video 30 Transcript
I love all the things outdoors but for sure one of my favorite outdoor activities is hiking so make sure you like do as much of that as you can in the fall before it gets cold and snowy and muddy up in the mountains and stuff and then also in the spring and even just like walking around on trails and stuff there are like some good trails like here in Provo there's one in Provo Canyon there's a really nice one in Mapleton like if you have access to those like those are also awesome.
