One of the most inspirational people I've met at BYU has been my Finance 201 professor, Professor Jim Brough. If you're taking Finance 201, he is amazing. He's incredibly spiritual and he has a really great life experience. And I learned a lot about finance, but I also learned a lot about life from him. He also has a whole unit on how to manage your personal finances, how to buy a house, how to buy a car, and that's a really great. If you're taking Finance 201, he's the guy to take it from.

So I majored in music education during my time at BYU, and during my time in that college, I had two professors that really helped change my life. First off, the school of music is really small, and so you really get to know your professors well, but Dr. Kurt Seville was the first professor. He was my music education professor when I first got to BYU, and he really just helped motivate me and push me to be a better teacher. I always joke that he was the professor that I needed because he helped just get me into shape and made sure that I was on track for graduating and just being really prepared to be a teacher. And then the second teacher that I had was Dr. Nate Siemens. He was the professor that replaced Dr. Seville when Dr. Seville retired, and I joke that he was the professor that I wanted because he was just like the cool uncle in a lot of ways, where he was just always there to help support, always there with great advice, and always did his best to make sure that I felt supported. And so both of those professors just had a profound influence on my time at BYU.

I have two that come to mind. There's Julie Hanks. She's a marriage and family therapist, LDS background, really well positioned to help answer some really great questions, especially if you're looking as a girl and a woman pursuing career in addition to having a family, knowing that you can do those two things together and it can be wonderful, spiritual, happy feelings thing for everybody. She's fantastic. My other suggestion is Hank Smith. He is a fantastic spiritual speaker, very motivating, uplifting. The next John, by the way, and they're both fantastic people. And another note, not everything you see on Instagram is going to be as glamorous as it is in real life. Just as a friendly reminder, everyone has their struggles. And if you find yourself really putting somebody on a pedestal, remember that it's not as perfect as it seems.

I feel like someone who's really inspirational to me at BYU is Brad Wilcox. He is an amazing teacher, he's an amazing professor, and I really just love all the things that he taught, that he teaches at BYU. He's a good example of someone who's kind and loving. I love all of his talks that he's given. I feel really fortunate to be at BYU with him. He doesn't know me personally. He's seen me a bunch, and every time he sees me, he says, Hi, how are you doing? And he's really friendly and kind. Someone he doesn't even know, he's so warm and friendly and gentle. So I really appreciate being a student here when he's a professor.

Look in the mirror. I mean, it's remarkable that you're going to be attending college. That in itself is remarkable. I think that's a really big deal is to be able to look in the mirror and look at yourself and your own journey. Each of us have such a different journey, but figure out who you are. You do you. Be your own best cheerleader. I mean, it's great to look at inspirational people all around you, and there are, but look in the mirror because you have the fortitude, you have the light inside of you. You do you. Figure out what it is and who you want to be, what really interests you.

The professor that I had for my career exploration class, her name was Amy Soto, and in that class we kind of did some like self-discovery things to help us figure out what kind of career paths we wanted to take, but she was just really inspiring to me because she really showed me that she cared about each of us individually, that she wasn't just a professor there to do a job or that she wasn't just doing things to give us grades, but she really cared about each of us individually and specifically with being successful in life, and it was just really inspiring to me because it helped me find a desire to find out what I wanted to do, and I really felt cared for, and I think that people like that just have a really big impact in our lives.

For me, some of the most inspirational people on campus were simply the students. I know a lot of people will name professors and and they're wonderful, I'm taking nothing away from them, but for me the most inspirational people were the students themselves. If you stop and think about it, how many people apply for BYU and don't even get in? So you're already looking at an elite group of those who just simply are attending BYU, who've been accepted and who are in, and you look at all of the skill sets that they have in the different areas and I just look around at all of the the talent and the kindness and the skills and the abilities and I was always inspired by the students at BYU and their willingness to share their talents, develop their talents, and help other people with their talents, and I always found the students at BYU to be a real inspiration to me.

I think that one of the things that sets BYU apart and makes it a really special university and place to be at is the faculty. The faculty is completely devoted to obviously teaching their curriculums very effectively but also to help to spiritually strengthen the students that go through BYU. I think last semester I had a biology professor who really really helped me and not just helped me learn my biology and helped me pass the tests and everything like that, but he shared his insights and shared his personal experiences with overcoming questions that he had or you know how he had received personal revelation on certain things and he just was very open with his testimony and that was very strengthening for me to look up to someone and see that I could find answers to my own questions.

So I really don't mean this as a joke, but some of the most inspiring people to me, or most people I'm most grateful for on campus, the TAs. TAs, a lot of the time, they're sometimes just as confused as you are, but they will help you. If you just go put the time in to go talk to TAs for help, they inspire me. I'm very, very grateful for all my TAs, and they help me get through the courses, they help all the other students, and they really just become your friends as well. So the TAs are inspiring people. Obviously, there's many great leaders here on campus who are inspiring, but a shout out to the inspiring TAs on campus who help us all get through.
