I went to BYU-Hawaii for a little bit before and my favorite class there was my advanced surfing class. So obviously couldn't be a thing in Utah but always wish I existed there.
I wish that a class for napping existed.
I think a class that I wish existed at BYU is a dating class and hear me out. It's like advice on how to date or ideas for dates, coming up with things, brainstorming, and mostly just focusing on respect and the importance of being kind and respectful as you go about dating. I'm personally now married but I have friends in the dating scene and it's ratchet out there. So I think that at BYU, since we're just so focused and so well known for marriage and dating and all those things, I wish there was a class just educating people on dating and advice and I don't know, just collaboration so that we can limit the provo-bros and focus on helping people have good experiences while dating.
I wish there was a class for learning how to drive in the snow and on black ice. I don't actually have to drive very much here because I just walk or my husband has the car or whatever and drives. But still, I had bad experiences at high school trying to learn how to drive in the snow and I still suck. So I wish there was a course that taught that.
A class that I wish existed, or at least still existed, is the napping class. It was a class and what you did was you took naps during the day. It was only worth one credit, but I hear it was revolutionary. I never got to take it.
I think it'd be really cool to have a class that helps one better their mental health. I have just seen so many people that I'm surrounded with and myself included that during the semester I tend to struggle a little bit with my mental health as I kind of put that on the back burner as I'm trying to work on everything else in my life and so I think it'd be really cool if there were a class designed to give more information about some of the mental health struggles that we might be experiencing as college students but then how to work through them and how to develop habits that can help us overcome those feelings and help others around us also even if we're not one to struggle with that. I think it would just help everyone come together and be very considerate and aware of others and be aware and considerate of ourselves.
A class which I'm sure exists now, but I wish it existed then, is in the business school if there had been a data visualization class to learn about how to create compelling stories and graphics that help you present data would have been really nice.
So I believe there's like a personal or family finance class that exists on BYU. However, I know it's really hard to get into and I know a lot of people would benefit from it. So I would just like to see more classes like that that can apply to literally everyone. You know, everyone needs to know how to better manage their finances or you know, how taxes work. Some of that practical life stuff, practical life skills, I think it would be cool to see that all organized into class content. So I think to summarize, I would say like a practical life skills class. So not just finances, but maybe some other things mixed in there too. I think that would be so beneficial.
