My campus life hack is to find ways to walk through the buildings in the winter wherever you're going so you don't have to walk out in the cold as much.
My campus life hack is to find ways to walk through the buildings in the winter wherever you're going so you don't have to walk out in the cold as much.
One hack that I have for on-campus studying is if you go to the fifth floor at the very top of the library and you go on the north side of the building, there's like this beautiful place where there's a bench and seats and you can look at the windows and it just has like the most beautiful views of the mountains and for me that's just the best way to study.
If you're living on campus and you need to do laundry, the best the best time to do it is when it's during the day when nobody is home because everyone's in classes. That's what I'm literally doing right now and so I really recommend that if you're living on campus.
A campus life hack for people who have a meal plan is that you can buy groceries and ice cream at the creamery, so it's a good way to use up some of those extra dollars on ingredients.
If you live where you have to pass by the Tanner building to get to school, instead of going up all the stairs, you can go take the elevator in the Tanner building up and not have to walk up like four flights of stairs.
If you are hungry and it is in the afternoon and you see a poster for a club or advertisement or whatever, I suggest you go to that because usually there is food involved, especially if there is one in the Marriott School of Business. They always have food. I believe they always have Chick-fil-A there.
My campus life hack is instead of going to the library, if you're on South Campus, just go to the LSB building. There are plenty of big places to study and focus, whiteboards you can use, better chairs, and it's a little bit more quiet and you're able to have smaller spaces or meet up with big groups.
In the bottom floor of the bookstore, there is a embroidery shop where you can get things embroidered. It's like t-shirts, towels, whatever you want. This is super helpful if you have like a roommate who keeps stealing your towels or clothes or something. It's really easy to go get it embroidered. Plus it can also make a really good gift and it's super cheap. Usually it's about $10 to $12 for full-length embroidery. So that's a cool hack I found.
Studying in the cubicles when you really have to walk in and get stuff done because it's just an isolated spot just for you to eliminate distractions and it's nice because some of them even have a whiteboard on the side and there's usually markers there and you can just write things as you go. They are pretty crowded but if you go early in the morning or during lunchtime those are the two times that they're always open and you're guaranteed to snag one and study away.
The best life hack that I can think of for BYU campus is downloading the BYU app. It's just this blue app that says BYU in white letters and it just has so many cool features. It gives you like your schedule each day. It will show you the classes that you have and it will show you a map and show you where your classes are on the map. And something really cool about that is that you can put the directions or you can click somewhere and it'll take you to the directions to get to your next class. I found that so helpful, especially freshman year when I didn't know where my classes were. You can also look at your book list on there. You can order your books. You can order food from the Wilk. There's so many cool functions. Also, you can look at the testing center lines.
My favorite life hack is to get a cup from a Kougari with your meal, of course, and then just save it. You can fill up later that day.
Always have a computer charger and or phone charger in your backpack all the time, because devices are really important in college. Most of the stuff you do is going to be on your computer, and there have been so many times where I spend way longer on campus than I anticipated, and if I don't have that charger, the device is dead. So, life hack, bring charger.
The one-time investment of like noise canceling headphones has been a game changer for me being able to stay on campus and like find spaces to study and things like that without having to worry about noise or other people. I can just kind of lock in, focus, get my work done. So finding ways to make your ability to focus on tasks at hand, that's a little bit of a campus life hack.
Renting study rooms is a major life hack. You can get on BYU, reserve a study room in the library, get group study rooms, private study rooms. I like the personal ones. You can rent them for two hours at a time and it's like okay I have a space designated just to work so that's what I'm gonna do and it's super helpful like mental cue.
I would say another one would probably be working on campus because most who employ on campus are very understanding that's like you are a student and so if your work schedule almost varies like by the week because of I have to take a test I have to do certain things like that's super convenient and then also just the ability to know that once you clock out of work your next class is like a 10-minute walk being able to clock in and out do class and work at the same time like having a campus job is kind of that's been a hack for sure.
One thing that I found in terms of learning how to study is, is taking time to verbally explain to someone the thing that you are trying to learn. That has been the biggest life hack ever. I didn't used to do that when I was in high school. I didn't really know how to study when I was in high school, to be honest. But I found that when I'm sitting for any kind of test, if I speak out loud or speak to someone and teach them what I'm trying to learn, my brain just like clicks somehow. So, big life hack.
My favorite life hack is in winter instead of walking up a million stairs I go to the elevator and the life science building.
Most buildings in BYU don't have any restriction on who can go in there and study. So you can literally go in there, walk in one of the back rooms, and sit down and study. You can sit in the halls. Often there will be desks or benches sitting around. Just go there. Find some place to study. Make it a regular spot. You don't have to sit in the Wilk or the library. You can find some great places in any of the buildings to sit down and take some time to study.
