A common misconception, especially about ballet and pointe shoes, is that you're standing like on blocks of wood. So while that's kind of true, the pointe shoe is actually very different from that. So if you look up a picture of a pointe shoe, on the back there's the sole of the shoe. So that's not just a piece of leather. There are three or four or five layers of like wood and leather and glue that are all on the back of your foot, and so you don't slide backwards, if that makes sense. When you're like, you don't come down on your foot quite so much. Think of it like the sole of a high heel, but instead of having the platform for the ball of your foot, it's actually up. And then the box part where the ball of your foot sits is the same stuff. It's like wood pulp and paper mache and things like that, and it holds up your foot not like your weight on the tip of your toe, but the weight on the whole part of your foot. It's, yeah.
