Why people quit - Author Video Transcripts
Video 1 Transcript
Why do people quit being an author? From what I have seen personally, a lot of people quit because they don't see instant success as an author, or they don't see as much success as they were expecting, or they don't win the awards that they wanted to win as an author. And that's a terrible way to look at being an author. If you were to think about being an author as if you were playing Texas Hold'em, every book you write is chips on the table. And the more chips you have on the table, the bigger bets you can make. And the cards you're holding, eventually the cards that you have in your hand will match the cards that are on the table, and you're gonna hit it big. And the more chips you have on the table, the bigger your jackpot will be. So just don't give up, keep writing, write every day, and you'll get more chips, and eventually you'll hit the jackpot.

Why people quit writing books, that's tough. There's lots of reasons, right? First of all, it's really hard to kind of break into the industry, so sometimes people quit right before they get in there, but I would say it takes grit, right? Often it's not your first manuscript you get out there, and that's often a good thing. You're learning, right, as you go. It could be your second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, up to tenth. Good thing is, is once you do break through, if we're talking about going with a traditional publisher, they can be interested in some of your previous stories that you've already written. You can also self-pub, which is a good thing, but you'll want to make sure you get a good editor to go through your stuff, right, get some professionals to help you out as well. But even if you do break through and your books are selling, it can be, you'll have ups and downs, right? Your sales will go up, they'll go down. You'll have one book that does really well, you might have a book that does less well, right?

So one of the reasons that people quit is because, and I said this in one of the other ones, but it's because you guys have a good eye for art. Anybody who's a writer started as a reader and they know what they like. And when they start writing, they start going, oh my gosh, this sounds like me. And I don't know about you guys, but I don't like hearing myself in a recording. And it's the same kind of thing in my writing. I look down and I'm like, oh, this, this sounds like I wrote it. But that's actually what makes your writing sparkle. It's, it's the magic of your writing and it will eventually be what's so beautiful about it. But you just have to look past the fact that it sounds just like you. And as you keep going, it will get better and better and better. And the, that magic voice that's you will be really the gift.
