Something I've learned over the years is that I have to take my own career by the bullhorns. I was working for a bank doing internal audit and I was told that the hardest jump was from an internal auditor two to a senior auditor one and so I asked all of the senior auditors what made that jump so hard. I was asking them, you know, what I could do to work on it and so I decided to work really hard on developing those skills in the position I was in so that it wouldn't be a hard jump and so that I was prepared for that. So I asked for projects that would help me develop those skills. I worked with people who were good at the skills I wanted to develop such as report writing and had them give me feedback and work on developing those skills. You got to make it happen for yourself.
