I served 20 years as a U.S. Army officer and many reasons why I joined. One of them is I like to be a part of something bigger than myself. One of them is family heritage. My father was also in the army as an officer. His father before him served time in the military. The other thing that was quite intriguing is the job opportunity for my specific career plans. It just aligned with it. The army encourages professional development and education development. You can plan out graduate degrees and things during your time in the military. You're always developing yourself. All those things contributed to why I joined the army.
