What’s the crime like in Ogden? (hot spot areas, etc.)

  • Bad north of the golf course, low on the east bench. (Jen, 3 years)

  • Compared to where I came from, not bad. (Anonymous, 6 years)
  • Not any worse than other cities but I’d avoid living in the inner city. (Shawna, 7 years)

  • Central Ogden, and West Ogden are a little sketchy at times but not as bad as people from SLC think. (Cassie, 10 years)

  • It doesn’t touch me in south Ogden. It seems more like a case by case thing instead of specific areas. There is a lot less gang activity compared to when I was a kid. (Lindsay, 29 years)

  • 50/50- there are bad gang spots around 26th-32, below Washington and 25th-30th, below Harrison, and sadly lately a lot of crime above Harrison 20th -30th (break-ins, theft). (Marie, 38 years)

  • Check out Moab or Park City if you are coming from the coast. Avoid tract housing or HOAs. (Jen, 3 years)

  • I love this city, and there is always something to do. Take advantage of the opportunities to really get to know the city and its neat history. (Shawna, 7 years)

  • Talk to your neighbors – lots of discovery is by finding out what’s going on. Embrace that there are more diverse groups here. It’s more than just 25th street. Go hike. Go to the Greek fest in September. (Lindsay, 29 years)
  • Before purchasing or signing a lease, sit outside the place after dark to see what you really will be dealing with. (Della, 32 years)

  • Ask local police how you find out the crime area. Be prepared to pay high rent on places not worth it. If you don’t have a car, be careful where you live or you will have no bus on Sundays at night after 5pm. (Marie, 38 years)

Share an experience you’ve had in Ogden (fun, crazy, etc.).

  • I almost died on a hike up the canyon going off the trail looking for other missionaries who wandered! (I’m thankful for land.. and second chances). (Kauhikoa, 7 months)
  • Walking my dog by the municipal gardens, a rogue 2yr old boy tackles her. She pins him and violently licks his face until his mom came to the rescue. Made a friend that day. (Olivia, 1.5 years)
  • The new Ramen Haus has amazing small plates. (Jen, 3 years)
  • Lots of activities with institute. (Vanessa, 4 years)
  • I found the South Ogden dog park. I love it! (Jean, 10 years)

  • Too many. I went to high school here and dragged the Vard. I gave birth to children here. I am raising children here. My grandparents owned bars on 25th street (still own buildings). (Lindsay, 29 years)

How do you think Ogden will change over the next 10 years?

  • I think it will grow because of silicon place and just the fact that Utah as a whole gains thousands upon thousands of people coming to live there these past couple years. (Kauhikoa, 7 months)
  • More development, and cleaning up the rough areas. (Olivia, 1.5 years)
  • Hopefully more diversity and less economic inequality, better liquor laws and more entertainment options for adults and not children/families. (Jen, 3 years)

  • It used to have tunnels in the downtown for bootleggers and brothels. (Jen, 3 years)
  • The Ogden Temple was the first temple made when Utah was a state. (Vanessa, 4 years)

  • My grandfather came from Greece and the Greek community had a hard time in Ogden. No one would lend them money so the men of the community had to build the church on their own. He couldn’t get a job so he bought a bar- the fall staff which provided for my dad and his siblings. (Lindsay, 29 years)
