On Tuesday night The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, joint with the Boy Scouts of America announced that they will cut ties by the end of next year.
As of December 31, 2019 all LDS Church sponsored BSA troops will be discontinued. The church will unveil a new youth program that will serve youth ages 8-18 worldwide.
The LDS Church intends to continue to support the BSA for the next 18 months or so, and encourages it’s members to continue to support their BSA chartered organizations until the split. After the split Boy Scout programs will no longer be sponsored by The LDS Church. LDS youth who wish to continue as registered Boy Scouts will have to register with other community-sponsored BSA troops and packs.
This split will end a 100+ year relationship The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had with the Boy Scouts of America.
